Long Beach – Where Memories Slow Down
There are some places that simply make you breathe a little deeper.
For me, Long Beach Conservation Area is one of those places.
If you've ever wished you could escape the noise of everyday life without giving up comfort or fun, this little corner of Ontario deserves a spot on your list. The moment you arrive, the sound of the waves replaces the sound of traffic, the breeze carries the scent of the lake, and suddenly the only thing on your schedule is deciding whether to explore...or simply sit and enjoy the view.
What I love most about Long Beach is that it truly offers something for everyone.
Whether you're looking for a quiet weekend away, a family vacation filled with adventure, or a seasonal campsite to call your summer home, you'll find it here. Seasonal campers can choose from sites with 15-amp or 30-amp power, including beautiful waterfront sites along the Ridge section. If you're only visiting for a few nights, there are nightly campsites available too, whether you want to wake up beside the water or stay a little farther back where, I have to admit, the mosquitoes seem to be a little less enthusiastic about greeting you!
One thing that always stands out to me is how well the campground is cared for. The washrooms and showers are consistently clean, well-maintained, and stocked. It may seem like a small detail, but it makes a huge difference after a long day outdoors.
The people make the experience even better.
From the campground staff to the seasonal campers, everyone seems genuinely happy to be there. Friendly smiles, helpful advice, and a welcoming atmosphere make it feel less like a campground and more like a little lakeside community. And if you ever need assistance, there's always someone nearby willing to lend a hand.
Of course, no trip to Long Beach feels complete without stopping at Beach Bites, the little restaurant and ice cream shop just before the beach. Whether you're craving lunch after a morning of swimming or treating yourself to an ice cream while watching the sunset, it's one of those simple traditions that quickly becomes part of every visit.
What surprised me most during my stay wasn't just how beautiful the beach was—it was how peaceful everything felt. The songs of the birds, squirrels darting through the trees, chipmunks gathering their treasures, rabbits quietly hopping through the campground, and even our nightly raccoon visitor all reminded me why I created Our Backyard in the first place. Nature has a funny way of slowing us down just enough to notice the little things we've been missing.
If you're searching for a place where you can build memories, reconnect with nature, and simply enjoy being outdoors, I can't recommend Long Beach enough.
